Inside a mill in Oldham (now demolished)

This was a mill a friend and I spent a few hours wandering around. It was a rather lovely mill with some lovely colours.

Sunset over Gee Cross, Hyde, Tameside

Well on the same night as I took my shots in Hollinwood featured in the last post, my Friend, Hydonian, took some shots in Gee Cross Hyde. As they didn't show up in the comments box I thought I'd pop them on here above my pics - same night two different locations - same stunning effect

Sunset over Hollinwood, Oldham

I was driving home from work one day and as I came off the motorway and was close to home I saw this amazing sunset. So I parked up and took some photographs.

Moravian Settlement, Droylsden, tameside

I had no idea this place was on my doorstep until the English Heritage open days last year. It's a rather lovely place with cobbled streets, nice buildings and a lovely church.

Iron Bridge over railway line, Oldham town centre

Some images of a bridge over the rail line very close to where mumps station was until it's recent demise to make way for the trams.

Primrose bank, Oldham

This was a large council housing estate which was demolished in 2009. I paid a few visits during it's demolition and took many photographs. Here are just a handful.

Assorted images - click on the images for larger sized versions.

I was returning from visiting a friend in Yorkshire one weekend and saw the below scene near Delph, Oldham. There was snow all around, a lovely mist hanging there and some sunshine streaming into the mist.

The following two images were taken near my home, I am lucky that very close to my home I have some lovely countryside. On the first image I spotted that the trees gave a lot of shade but that a sliver of sunlight had penetrated and lit just a very small amount of the vegetation. I liked the way this looked and hoped the camera could capture it as well as my eyes did - you judge for yourselves.

The first post - click on the images to see much larger sized versions

Well I feel the below image is the perfect one to start off my site as it encompasses both geographical areas that this site is about.  The shot was taken from the roof of a now demolished mill in Oldham and along with Maple mill one can see, in the distance, hartshead pike - which is in Tameside.

Whilst the name is oft used when referring to the tower it was actually originally the name of the hill upon which it stands.

From the pike one can see, on a clear day, 4 counties - Lancashire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire.

Whilst I was up on the mill roof there were some very moody looking clouds.

It was quite a view from that roof - we could see so much of the Oldham landscape.

Time to leave the mill now.

Welcome to my new site

Hi all and welcome to my new site. Please take a moment or two to read the introduction and geographical boundaries pages to give you an idea what my site is about.

In short it is a site about my local area - mainly intended as a photo blog but I am leaving things open for the site to develop in any direction. I am also going to be inviting a few people I know to contribute to the site and give them free rein to do what they want with their contribution.

So without further ado I will post a few images taken within the last 12 months to get things going - please do keep returning if you like what you see and please share the site with friends and family.

A click on any of the images will give you a much larger version of the image.

thanks for visiting.
